More than a collection of techniques

JKD is a method
of discovery.

Jeet Kune Do was never intended to become a collection of techniques preserved in time.

It is an approach to understanding combat — learning sound fundamentals, developing attributes, testing ideas honestly and adapting them to the individual.

What survives that process is yours. What does not survive it was never yours to begin with.

The JKD Method

Understand. Train.
Test. Evolve.

Every skill in JKD Method passes through four stages.

01

Understand

Learn the principle.

Understand what you’re doing, why you’re doing it and the problem it is designed to solve.

02

Train

Develop the skill.

Build mechanics, movement, timing and attributes through purposeful training.

03

Test

Introduce resistance.

Pressure reveals what survives when movement, timing and uncertainty are introduced.

04

Evolve

Make it yours.

Adapt what works. Remove what doesn’t. Develop an approach appropriate to you.

Turn knowledge
into skill.

Every practical lesson gives you something to do — not simply something to watch.

  1. Understand A short technical explanation of the principle and the problem it solves.
  2. Learn Clear instruction on the mechanics, position and detail.
  3. Train A structured drill with defined repetitions, focus points and progressions.
  4. Test A resistance or perception challenge that puts the skill under pressure.
  5. Assignment Something to complete and demonstrate before progressing.

Common questions

Do I need previous Jeet Kune Do experience?+

No. JKD Method begins with Foundations and progressively develops from there. If you already have experience in another art, the Foundations material still matters — it establishes the platform, measure and defensive structure the rest of the curriculum assumes.

Can I learn Jeet Kune Do online?+

Much of it, yes — and we are specific about which parts. Technical understanding, principles, tactical frameworks, solo development, mechanics, attributes, conditioning and structured training can all be delivered extremely well online, and often more clearly than in a crowded class.

Genuine martial skill also requires partner work, timing, contact, resistance and progressive live training. The Academy is built to give you the structure, the material and the training method, and to show you exactly how to introduce a partner and progressive pressure as you develop.

Do I need a training partner?+

Not to begin. Many early lessons and complete workouts are designed to be trained solo — movement, measure, footwork, mechanics, bag and wall-bag work, and attribute development.

Partner training becomes increasingly important as you progress. From the middle of the pathway onward, testing under perception, timing and resistance needs another person. Each Method makes clear which material is solo, which is partner-based and how to adapt where necessary.

Is this Original JKD or JKD Concepts?+

JKD Method respects the historical material and development of Jeet Kune Do while focusing on principles, functional training and continued individual development rather than factional labels.

The roots matter and are taught properly. So does what happens when the material is put under pressure. Those two commitments are not in conflict, and the curriculum is built on both.

What equipment do I need?+

Very little at the start. Space to move and something to record yourself with is enough for the Foundations material.

As training progresses, focus mitts, gloves, a bag and appropriate protective equipment become useful, and eventually necessary for pressure testing. Equipment is introduced gradually, and each Method tells you what is needed before you reach it.

Can martial arts instructors join?+

Yes. Instructors from any background are welcome to train through the Academy, and many use the pathway as a diagnostic rather than a syllabus.

Any future instructor certification programme is separate from ordinary Academy membership and involves assessment and in-person evaluation.
